Two fresh shooter franchises coming in 2010

First-person shooter fans looking for a fix after Modern Warfare 2 won't be disappointed, as two new games have already been announced for a 2010 release.

First comes Metro 2033: The Last Refuge , a Ukrainian game based on a novel of the same name by Dmitry Glukhovsky. Set in Russia twenty years after the apocalypse, those who survived have formed societies within the metro stations that sheltered them (apparently in the Russia of the future, all train stations come equipped with mushroom gardens, air and water filters and hermetic locks.) The surface is overrun with horrible abominations the people call "Darkness," and the player must take control of a young man named Artem as he makes his way to the heart of Moscow to seek help for his dying tribe.

Few details have been released regarding Metro 2033's gameplay, but according to a recent European preview published by IGN it seems that developer 4A Games are trying to hit all the high points of a first-person PC experience. Promises of an interactive world, multiple solutions to every problem and enemy AI that adapts to the player's actions have all been bandied about, but we won't know how well the game executes on those promises until THQ brings the game to the U.S. on PC and XBox 360 next year.
